Better earnings. Better savings.

Contributions to your Embark account are invested in financial assets like stocks and bonds, which can earn more over the long term than funds in a traditional bank account. You won’t be taxed on the investment earnings in your account as long as they’re used for qualified educational expenses.

Professionally managed plans.

Embark portfolios are well diversified across several industry-leading mutual funds, overseen by independent experts dedicated to maximizing the value of your investments.

Contribute like clockwork.

Set up automatic contributions to your Embark account to keep your savings growing consistently, whether you’re thinking about them or not. You can also try out some unique options to save, like our Weather Savings Boosters that automatically contribute to your Embark account when it rains, sleets, or snows. With compound interest, even a small contribution can really add up over time.

Browse investment options.

Pick the best saving strategy for your family. Go with an enrollment year portfolio if you’re looking for a low-maintenance plan that automatically shifts your assets to more conservative investments as your kid’s higher education enrollment date gets closer. Or take a more hands-on approach with a static portfolio, where you can choose from a mix of aggressive, moderate, and conservative investment options.

There’s more than one way to save. Learn how you can save funds with BottleDrop, and how friends and family can contribute using your personalized gifting page.

Fees for each investment option are different, but the average annual cost is 0.28% of your invested assets per year, which translates to $2.80 in fees for every $1000 you invest.

How do I adjust my investment portfolio?

How often can I make changes to my investment allocations?

You can only sell off a portfolio to buy a new option twice per calendar year. However, you can start contributing to a new, additional portfolio, as many times as you'd like.

No, you cannot rebalance the asset allocation in your individual portfolio(s), but you can tweak your overall investment options up to twice a year.
